I am a feminist 政治 geographer concentrating on conflict, 安全, 以及在阿富汗的援助和发展. 在科罗拉多州, I co-direct the CU-Boulder Affordable Housing 研究 Initiative (CU-BAHRI), which focuses on community-driven and engaged research with organizations and individuals providing, 努力, or interested in affordable housing.

My doctoral research focused on the Revolutionary Association of the Women of 阿富汗 (RAWA), a clandestine feminist-nationalist organization. My interest in this organization was sparked by my 的相互作用 with their international supporters network in the United States. I examined the RAWA's methods of 政治 action in 阿富汗 and Pakistan, along with their effective use of the Internet and international support networks. 2005年至2012年, my research focused on examining the spatial arrangements, 的相互作用, and gender roles within the international "community" in Kabul, 阿富汗, compared to the "local" Afghan population. The geopolitics and geo-economics associated with the placement of International workers and their 的相互作用 with Afghans were central to this project. I also became increasingly interested in the differentiated methods used by Afghans and internationals to provide for their own 安全 in spaces increasingly beset by 政治 violence and a general state of in安全. 2012年至2021年, I worked on two projects focusing on women's social and 政治 activism, 影响, 和阿富汗的权力. One project examined women's roles in the peace process in 阿富汗 (2014-2019), funded by the United States Institute for Peace, and the second project focused on women's leadership and 影响 at different scales, from home and family to national 政治 participation and governance, funded by the National Science Foundation.

目前的研究 

Since the resurgence of the Taliban in 阿富汗, I have turned my attention to Afghan refugees and asylum seekers in the U.S. 和加拿大, along with the status of women's rights and their social, 政治, and economic participation in 阿富汗.

I am working on a project with Boulder County on Manufactured 首页 Communities through the  CU-Boulder Affordable Housing 研究 Initiative.
